Game Set & Match on the BBCCountryfile visited the village of Slindon with Matt Baker taking part in some cricket. We were very proud of both Slindon CC in their Game Set & Match cricket shirts as well as some Arundel Cricketers also sporting their cricket shirts embroidered and printed at Game Set & Match

As we are now less than a year from the Olympics I took some time out to see who uses Adidas Hockey sticks and asks them a few questions about the products they use:
Many thanks to Simon and Richard Mantell of Reading, England and Great Britain, Barry Middleton of East Grinstead, England and Great Britain, Chloe Rogers of Leicester, England and Great Britain and Alex Danson of Reading, England and Great Britain for their time and answers.
I asked them simple questions about their hockey stick of choice in the Adidas range:
Name: Barry Middleton
Which stick do you use? I use the x17.
What do you like best about it? I like that it is straight. I have always used a straight stick and find it is great for my first touch.
What weight and length do you use? I use 37.5 length and around 540/550 weight.
Do you put any extra grips or tape on it? I have some different grips for different occasions. I like the grips that cone with it but sometimes struggle when they get wet. So I have a chamois grip on a spare stick also so I can swap easily.
Which shoes do you use? Adistar LB
Name: Alex Danson
Which stick do you use? The blue one with the slight bend (sorry can’t remember what is called!!) (LX24)
What do you like best about it? Having the very slight bend in it means it’s great for quick skills and turn over the ball.
What weight and length do you use? I always joke about my deceptive height so play with a 37.5 and I use a super light.
Do you put any extra grips or tape on it? I tape the bottom to help with stick stopping and I also put on a shammy to help my grip when it rains.
Which shoes do you use? Adistar S2N
Name: Chloe Rogers
Which stick do you use? Adibow LX24
What do you like best about it? I like the shape of the stick, with the slight bow and full sized head shape. Also the nice soft feel to it whilst still having a strong hitting power to the stick.
What weight and length do you use? Light, 36.5″
Do you put any extra grips or tape on it? Yep i normally have one stick with a chamois grip on for if its raining and then a stick with a ‘tennis’ over grip which I play with the most.
Which shoes do you use? Adistar LB
Name: Richard Mantell
Which stick do you use? TX24
What do you like best about it? The bow is great for my drag flicking and is a really nice shape to play with as well.
What weight and length do you use? I use length 38.5″ and weight 570g
Do you put any extra grips or tape on it? Depending on the conditions I either use an adidas shammy grip or a towelling grip if it’s really wet
Which shoes do you use? Adistar LB
Name: Simon Mantell
Which stick do you use? Adidas LX24 adibow
What do you like best about it? Good amount of bend for ease of lifting ball and power on pushing and flicking. Great power from Dual spine.
What weight and length do you use? 570 grams, 39.5 cm Balance point, 37.5 length
Do you put any extra grips or tape on it? I shorten the under grip and build up the butt so that it is thickest at the top and gradually gets thinner towards the bottom of the grip, then put a chamois over grip on top.
Which shoes do you use? Adistar Light for matches and sometimes Adistar Support in training
A massive thank you to Simon, Richard, Chloe, Alex and Barry for answering my questions, good luck to them all in their Olympic training this season and best of luck at London 2012. I know I will be there to watch!
